That is why I have divided this SEO tools article into different categories.
If you want to skip to any section, simply click on one of the links below.
- Free Analytics SEO Tools
- Free Keyword Analysis SEO Tools
- Free Website Traffic & Competitor Analysis Tools
- Slightly Advanced SEO Tools (But Still Beginner-Friendly!
With that, let us get into the list!
Free Analytics SEO Tools for Your Kenyan Business
To properly grow your business, you need to understand the numbers.
You need to track and analyze your site data. That is where these free analytics tools come in!
If you really want to get started, the 2 tools below are a must-have.
Google Search Console

Google Search Console is one of the best free SEO tools you can start with.
Think of this as your direct line to Google about your website’s health.
Google Search Console shows you:
- How Google sees your website
- Keywords you rank for
- Any technical errors Google finds
- How people are clicking on your site from search results

It might sound technical, but Google offers guides to help you set it up, and it’s gold for understanding your SEO starting point.
Google Analytics

This is your website’s traffic dashboard.
Set up Google Analytics to track who’s visiting your website and where they are coming from.
For example, with Google Analytics, you can see organic search, social media traffic, referral traffic, and more. It all depends on how you set up your dashboard.

You can also see which pages they are looking at and how long they stay.
This helps you understand your website visitors and see if your SEO efforts are actually bringing in more of the right people.
Free Keyword Analysis SEO Tools for Your Business in Kenya
As you have seen in my article on what SEO is, keywords are one of the most important SEO elements.
These are the phrases that people type in when looking for something. Getting your keywords right can make or break your SEO strategy.
So, today, I will share some free keyword analysis tools that I use as well.
Keyword Surfer

Keyword Surfer is my go-to free SEO analysis tool for my Kenyan clients, because of how simple it is to use.
Once you install its Chrome extension, when you search on Google, Keyword Surfer will show you search volume estimates for your keywords on the search results page!
It also gives you keyword ideas and related terms. As a result, it is a super quick way to get a feel for keyword popularity as you browse.

Keywords Everywhere

Because free SEO tools, especially with reliable Kenya data, can be very limited, I usually have several set up just in case one fails me.
So, Keywords Everywhere is a similar tool to Keyword Surfer and does pretty much the same thing.
It also shows you keyword search volume, cost-per-click (CPC), and competition data right in Google search results.
But the big difference between Keyword Surfer and Keyword Everywhere is that the latter pulls data from multiple sources and gives you even more keyword ideas.

Its biggest limitation is that while it used to be completely free, it now uses a credit system for more detailed data, but it still offers valuable free insights.
Free Website Traffic & Competitor Analysis Tools
The tools above help you get the keywords and track them.
But how do you get ahead of your competitors? How do you know what type of SEO your competition is using?
One of the oldest SEO tactics is identifying what works well for your competition and implementing it yourself… And doing it better!
This is called reverse engineering.
Competitor analysis tools show you which sites are ranking for your target keywords, how much traffic they’re getting, and where that traffic is coming from.
This gives you a shortcut to building a winning SEO strategy without starting from scratch.
As you can imagine, this is a great way for a Kenyan business starting in SEO to get ahead.
Similarweb

Similarweb was the first SEO tool I used almost 10 years ago.
And I still use it today because of how helpful and insightful it is.
Want to peek into what your competitors are doing online?
Similarweb is your secret weapon!
This Chrome extension gives you traffic estimates and key metrics for any website you visit.
You can quickly see how much traffic a competitor’s site gets, where their traffic is coming from, and even their top keywords!

The best part is that you do not need to leave the competitor’s site to see these metrics. As a result, you can go page by page and analyze every metric you want.
MozBar

MozBar is one of those tools I keep going back to, especially when doing quick SEO checks on client sites or competitors.
It’s a free Chrome extension from Moz that shows important SEO metrics right in your browser as you browse any website.
Just like Similarweb, you don’t have to leave the competitor’s site. MozBar shows all the data, like Domain Authority (DA), Page Authority (PA), and backlink counts, right at the top of your browser.
But it goes a step further, since you can view all this data on the Google search results page (SERPs).
So you can view all your competitors on the search results page in one go.

That makes it super convenient for quick, on-the-go analysis.
For beginners, this is a simple way to judge which sites are easier (or harder) to outrank, without diving into complex tools.
Slightly Advanced SEO Tools (But Still Beginner-Friendly!
Once you’re comfortable with the basics, these tools will help you dig a little deeper.
They’re slightly more technical, but still easy enough for beginners to pick up and start using.
- Google PageSpeed Insights: This free tool shows how fast your website loads on desktop and mobile. Speed matters for SEO and user experience—especially in Kenya, where mobile data is king. PageSpeed Insights also tells you exactly what’s slowing your site down and gives you suggestions to fix it.
- Ubersuggest Free Backlink Checker: Backlinks are a top SEO ranking factor. With Ubersuggest’s backlink checker, you can see which sites link to your competitors and find similar opportunities for your business. It’s also handy for checking your own link profile and spotting any spammy links that could hurt your rankings.
- Yoast SEO: If you’re using WordPress, Yoast SEO is one of the best tools to guide your content optimization. It gives you real-time tips as you write—like how often to use your keyword, how readable your post is, and whether your meta tags are well-written for Google.
- All in One SEO (AIOSEO): Another powerful WordPress plugin, AIOSEO helps you handle everything from sitemaps to title tags. It’s beginner-friendly and walks you through key settings that affect your rankings. It also helps you optimize each page or post before you publish, so you don’t miss anything important.
- Google Keyword Planner: This is Google’s own keyword research tool. It shows you search volume, keyword competition, and related terms based on real search data. It’s especially useful if you’re planning content or running Google Ads. And yes—it works for Kenya-specific searches too, which makes it extra helpful locally.
